Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago provides residents with a unique experience treating both VA and active duty patients. With a high volume and variety of surgical cases, residents gain expertise in reconstructive surgery, trauma surgery, and sports medicine. The facility is located on Naval Station Great Lakes, which offers access to over 40,000 potential new patients per year. Residents have the opportunity to follow patients pre- and post-operatively, providing a complete surgical training regimen with continuity of care. Core rotations are completed at the main hospital, with vascular rotations at Vista Health Center. Additionally, there are plenty of things to do in North Chicago, including visiting the Great Lakes Naval Museum, exploring the Illinois Beach State Park, and enjoying Lake Michigan.
