OKC

April 2, 2025

Attendings/Residents: Around 10 attendings, including a foot and ankle ortho. Everyone was great to work with. Attendings took time to teach in the OR. A major strength of this program is working with the foot and ankle ortho. He is a great person and doesn’t have any ortho residents, so the pod residents scrub all of his cases. The residents seemed to get along great and hung out almost every weekend, which was nice to see.

Academics: Weekly McG chapter reviews, monthly journal club as well as cadaver labs. Student presentation at the end of the month. Academics were very informal, but they are improving.

OR Experience: Surgery every day. Great variety of cases as well as case load, and the attendings were hands off, residents performed almost every surgery I saw skin to skin. These residents were strong surgeons

Clinic: Clinic is done at the Cleveland Clinic as a PGY1. Zero clinic at OKC unless if you choose to go. This can be a positive or a negative, depending on what you are looking for.

Favorite part: The attendings and residents made my month a phenomenal experience. Everyone got along great, and the residents had some of the best hand skills I saw while on externships. This is a very strong surgery-heavy residency with an amazing schedule. After surgeries, the residents were done for the day.
