Attendings/Residents/Students (lifestyle, criticism, aura): the program director (Lepow) was incredibly pompous I was shocked at his approach and display considering I went for a single visit. He is understandably highly successful and smart as he continued to claim however it was uncomfortable. The residents were great and claimed to have enjoyed the previous residency (st Joseph) before it transitioned over to the heights. It seems to be just a name change with a few additions. The new hospital was nice and is still in the process of development.
Didactics:
OR Experience: I went into the OR with Lepow and the resident as I was only visiting I did not get the opportunity to scrub in. The resident was hands on for the bunion procedure performed with a bit of correction and guidance from Lepow. Conversation and teaching moments were good in the OR.
Clinic Experience: I did not get to experience any but from what the resident told me it was good and that all the attendings have clinics and private offices so they are good to learn from. They were building a resident run clinic/research clinic in the hospital as well? Not sure when it would be finished?
Research Opportunities:
City Life: Houston was huuuggeee and lots of driving
Favorite Part: the resident and how honest she was! Also the residents in Texas get opportunities to do mission trips to Mexico which is a awesome addition
Constructive Criticism: Lepow turned me away from the program as he was very egocentric and wanted you to know that he has previous patents and knew it all. I was shocked by the lack of awareness he had in telling the entire OR his achievements while simultaneously speaking down on others. Also he looks deep into your cv’s so make sure to look back through what you initially put on there just in case he asks. Also the program although a continuation seems still in much of a trial for my liking tstt
