Lots of changes incoming

June 30, 2023

Attendings/Residents/Students (lifestyle, criticism, aura):

Attendings: Dr. Sobolosky/Mike was a great teacher and mentor despite having internal conflict with the program and leaving the program in the coming months. Dr. Blashcke was also a great program director and leader (very kind and thoughtful) however he is going through many health complications and I am unsure of the direction in the coming years. Dr. Rodgers (possibly new leader) was not to be seen and very much full of himself. An okay teacher with a wild ego. Dr. Peidei was okay and cared a lot about his patients but was so micromanaging and stressed to the point that I was concerned for his patients. Dr. Campbell and Nguyen were great especially Campbell as she was caring and also was a good teacher. The residents were competent and confident but highly overworked. But skilled and knowledgeable which was impressive (run clinic and both a attending/consulting)

Didactics:

Once a week didactics that were okay whilst I was there. Not too impressive but I think they are wanting to change this more as well. Also externs we’re expected to do a presentation over a case which was not so bad

OR Experience:

Great OR experience but really dependent on which attending you were with. Campbell was the best to work under as she guided you through anything you felt comfortable with performing. Dr. Peidei was not fun in the OR. Dr. Sobolevsky was quality but he is leaving.

Clinic Experience:

The clinic was quite busy and standard 8-3ish with a lot of diabetic underserved population. This was good as you were responsible for seeing and caring for the patient before presenting to a resident or attending.

Research Opportunities:

Not sure. Dr. Dove I think is leading it.

City Life:

SA is okay definitely need a car and patience to get through the traffic. Chicken n pickle was a fun spot and the Pearl as well!

Favorite Part: working with dr. Sobolskey and Campbell

Constructive Criticism: If rodgers is to become the director he needs to care a bit more for the students, his patients, and image. Dr. Blaschke was great and I hope he makes a full recovery and I am wrong about the big shift but…

Texas is huge and SA is no different. The place is in the middle of a giant megatropolis… Lots of fun things to do so i had fun and got to learn quite a lot. Got to hike, enjoy night life, and explore texas music scene. I would recommend.

A great program to learn how to do diabetic limb salvage well! This is a very academic program that is a surgical

team that admits patients, does a ton of surgery and has lots of outside facility clinics also. Overall an amazing

experience and great program!!!
