Attendings/Residents: There are four main attendings, including the director. All of the attendings were very pleasant and personable. Dr. Anderson is amazing to work with, as he loves to teach and have a good time. Dr. Pirano (the director) is a really chill guy, he doesn’t really talk to students but he’s very smart and great to work with. They take 3 residents per year and they seem to all get along nicely. They did hang out one weekend and invited us students, which was cool.

Didactics: Pre op conference every Monday at 6:30am, resident presentations 1st and 4th Wednesdays of every month, Boards review every Thursday at 6:15am on Zoom, Monthly journal club, and student presentations. I felt like the academics were a bit much to be honest. It seemed like every other day there was some academics going on. It was pretty rough for the first years as their schedule was one of the busiest I saw while on externships.

OR Experience: Overall, it was a good experience. 2nd and 3rd years did cases skin to skin if they could do so. What turned me off was the OR experience for the PGY-1’s. They weren’t getting enough quantity, in my opinion. The intern I was with did one surgery in two weeks. It took the intern 6 months to have the opportunity to perform skin-to-skin amputation. Great case variety otherwise, there were two ankle replacements my month

Clinic Experience: A lot of clinic pretty much every day, if you’re not in the OR, they send you to clinic somewhere. Great autonomy for the residents in clinic and overall great elective/trauma exposure.

Favorite part: Learning from Dr. Anderson

Honest thoughts: Great program if you don’t mind low OR exposure and an insane schedule as a PGY-1. If you like clinic, definitely visit this program.
