Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a not-for-profit hospital with 1131 beds and a Level 1 Joint Commission accreditation. It serves as the only Level-1 trauma center for both adults and children in middle Tennessee, designated by the American College of Surgeons. The residency program’s curriculum is designed with 22 months on Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and the Nashville Veterans Administration Medical Center in two to four-week block formats. The program offers hands-on research, cadaver labs, lectures, conferences, and journal club participation. Nashville, Tennessee, has plenty of attractions to offer, including the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the Parthenon, and the Ryman Auditorium, among others.

I went here on my first month out into the world. The attendings and residents were extremely helpful in many ways. They trusted me from day 1 and I gained a lot of confidence after working here. You’ll work hard while you’re there but it’s worth every minute.

Cons:

Vanderbilt podiatry doesn’t do much rearfoot due to the large ortho presence but the VA right next door has lot of opportunity for rearfoot. Also, ortho invited me into surgery on several occasions.
