Western Reserve Hospital is Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio is home to a well-balanced surgical residency program that places emphasis on surgical skills, pre and postoperative management, and wound care. Residents gain experience in hospital-based clinics, private practices, and office rotations, and have access to excellent resources at a modern facility. The program is designed to prepare residents for private or group practice, with rotations exposing them to necessary skills. All residents are required to submit a paper for publication by the end of their third year and attend the ACFAS Annual Scientific Conference. When not studying, residents can enjoy attractions such as the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and Blossom Music Center.

Not good

May 20, 2025

No rear foot or ankle the entire month. Kind of a joke. Go somewhere else unless you want to learn how to do a bunion one way or learn how to work a go pro. I think there was 10 cases the entire month. didn’t learn anything. Hard pass for me but to each their own

Great intimate program

January 20, 2025

Really liked visiting and thought the staff was nice and the resident that was there was well skilled for only being a first year. Dr. Campitelli was a great teacher and spent time talking to me and likes to each.

Western reserve

December 11, 2024

I honestly don’t know how this is an actual accredited residency program. It’s so bad beyond belief. There is only one resident here who doesn’t know what he’s doing. Multiple days I was sent to Lounge and sat in the physician lounge all day and nobody came to get me. It’s a joke. Campitelli is director there. He’s absolutely full of himself and makes videos of the same surgeries. Makes students record stuff since there were no residents available since they all left. Absolute waste of time. I will echo what was said in previous review. Campitelli is busy surgically with bunions but only fixes them one way. It gets boring after awhile. Just don’t waste your time.

Western reserve hospital review

October 18, 2024

Attendings/Residents/Students (lifestyle, criticism, aura):  there isn’t much of a program. The attending aren’t really interested in teaching or really care. The only attending that was busy was the director. I didn’t really get a chance to talk to him though during my month and wasn’t interested in students

Didactics: I didn’t participate in any didactics during my rotation. I’m not sure if that was by chance. There’s only one resident there now that the others left and I don’t know if that changed how it all works.

OR Experience: nobody really operated other than the director. We weren’t able to scrub MIS cases. scrub techs I heard are mean but I didn’t really get a chance to scrub in during my month

Clinic Experience: clipped nails and that’s really it at director’s office. Typical student slave labor. Did wound care at hospital but didn’t really do anything. It’s not really a wound center, it’s just a few small rooms that was located by trash room. Dirty clinic.

Research Opportunities: I don’t know. They didn’t do any research or articles while I was there

City Life: cuyahoga falls was nice. I wish the program was as good as the area. Cool downtown

Favorite Part: I thought I was going to like MIS stuff but I never really got to see anything or scrub any MIS cases because they don’t allow students to do so.

Constructive Criticism: the program is at an all time low it seems like. Nobody talks about what happened with the program so I don’t really know. There is just no support from the attendings and that was very evident.

I would not recommend doing a rotation here. It was honestly pretty awful. Didn’t have really anything to do and the only thing I did was just trim nails at clinic. The resident at the program was stand offish. There are several of my friends that rotated here and had same issues.

WRH podiatry residency

September 2, 2024

Attendings/Residents/Students (lifestyle, criticism, aura): There is only one resident there now. the second and third year resident left. I’m unsure why but things that I heard was simply the training just simply isn’t good and there is no trauma. The resident that was there is not working with ortho because ortho students get priority over podiatry resident.

The director is the only one consistently doing surgery and inpatient. No other attendings had inpatients.

Didactics: didn’t really have any didactics since there’s only one resident. There’s no real faculty support from what I saw in my month.

OR Experience: I got to scrub in the non mis surgeries which was not many. Only the first year resident was there so I didn’t really do much

Clinic Experience: wound care with director. No other clinic experience. I believe residents usually go to director’s clinic. Dr campitelli but since only one resident I’m not really sure

Research Opportunities: small hospital. Not sure if it’s a focus. From what I was told in orientation you have to publish research by end of 3rd year but I truly don’t know

City Life: I didn’t really get to see the city since I commuted from school. Seemed like a nice enough area around the hospital.

Favorite Part: mis stuff however that’s really all that was going on that was unique about it

Constructive Criticism: there’s a lot to be desired with the program. Seems to me the program was good and now terrible. There’s no trauma. The hospital recently hired an ortho foot and ankle and only wants to work with ortho residents. The podiatry program doesn’t get any trauma from hospital. I did not do one trauma case in my 5 weeks at the program.

avoid program

June 14, 2024

im not sure how i feel about the program. there is only a third year resident there. she’s very rude and condescending. the other 2 residents left and im not sure if the program is even continuing on. not very much faculty support. it’s like the program director doing MIS stuff and doing social media and nobody else is really doing anything. best to avoid program and do clerkship somewhere else

Horrible

November 20, 2023

The program director, campitelli, just wears camera all day and films the surgery, doesn’t teach and just interested in social media. he did not talk to me once. they have no faculty support. seems like the residents just cover him and that’s it, like they are his personal assistant. they work maybe 10 hours per week. they clearly didn’t have enough to do. the residents seemed very unhappy. they double scrub ortho and don’t get to do anything in thoes cases. i think i scrubbed one case as a student. avoid program like the plague
